Passengers traveling on a tour excursion bus were hit with shattered glass after the bus collided with a campervan. The accident took place on the Otago Peninsula in Dunedin, New Zealand.
The passengers were from the Princess Cruises Majestic Princess.
According to the Otago Daily Times news article, “the crash, on a tight corner in Portobello Rd shortly after 9am, tore a hole in the side of the campervan driven by a Portobello couple and smashed a passenger-side window on the bus.
No serious injuries were reported but police said two of the cruise ship tourists were transported to hospital with minor injuries after being showered in window glass.”
There were about 30 cruise ship tourists on the bus when it crashed.
While this specific accident is not likely to result in a cruise ship injury lawsuit, filing a successful lawsuit stemming from cruise excursion accidents can be difficult. Most excursion companies are not owned and operated by the cruise line which makes it difficult to associate the accident with the actions of the cruise line if any. And though cruise lines make have a relationship with the excursion operators, they can’t manage every aspect of their associated vendors. If the cruise line knows of or knew of issues that could possibly have prevented an accident, they may be liable for their passengers injuries.
More won’t be know about this accident until more details emerge.
