Alcohol possible cause of passenger death on Carnival Cruise ship

Alcohol may have played a role in the death of a passenger aboard a Carnival Cruise ship on February 26.

The passenger died aboard the Carnival Miracle. The incident is still under investigation.

Unfortunate events like this one raise the question of how cruise lines should manage the distribution of alcohol to its passengers and how can ship personnel better recognize situations in which passengers are too intoxicated to safely consume more alcohol.

Crew members who serve alcohol – waiters and bartenders and bar staff – are trained to recognize the signs of over-consumption and to discontinue service when they deem prudent. The reality is that it can be difficult to do so.

What liability does the cruise line have if a passenger is over-served and alcohol becomes the reason for an accident, a fight or possibly even a death?

The answer is that it depends – each incident, injury or accident aboard a cruise ship stemming from alcohol consumption is different. Each potential claim needs to be researched. Questions need to be asked.

If you were involved in an altercation or accident aboard a cruise ship and believe alcohol played a role – you may have a viable claim. To speak with an experienced cruise injury attorney who has helped hundreds of other injured passengers, please contact Waks and Barnett at 800-905-2891.
