Queens Man, New York Man Indicted For Strangling A Woman On Cruise Ship

On Oct. 11, Cruise Law News reports that, “the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York alleged yesterday that a cruise passenger, identified in court papers as Carlos Batista Jr. of Elmhurst, New York, assaulted his girlfriend and choked her until she passed out during a cruise to the Bahamas.”

The indictment maintains that Batista strangled and suffocated his girlfriend on Sept. 8. The name of the cruise ship on which the incident took place was withheld in the indictment.

According to the allegations in the Indictment and the Complaint found here:

“As alleged in the criminal Complaint and the Indictment, following a dispute on September 8, 2018, with his girlfriend, BATISTA grabbed, dragged, pushed, and pulled the victim through the hallways of the cruise ship. When the victim screamed for help, BATISTA covered her mouth and restricted her breathing, at one point causing the victim’s body to go limp. Ultimately, BATISTA dragged the victim into his cabin and continued to assault her until others on the ship, who responded to the screaming, were able to open BATISTA’s cabin door where they found BATISTA with his arm around the victim’s neck.”
