Carnival Crewmember Charged With Molesting Teen Ship Passenger

According to police in Florida, a Carnival Cruise crewmember was arrested August 15th for allegedly sexually abusing a teenage passenger.

As reported by NBCNews.com:

Yovany Suazo-Batiz, 46, a steward on the Carnival Valor, was arrested when the ship docked at Port Canaveral, east of Orlando, according to a statement from the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office. He has been charged with sexual battery of a person under 16 years of age and lewd and lascivious molestation, and is being held on $95,000 bail, the statement said.

Other details:

  • The victim was a teenage male
  • The incident occurred in the sauna / shower area of the Carnival Valor
  • The victim’s father and other passengers confronted the Carnival employee and detained him until the ship’s security arrived

Determined a “flight risk” a Brevard County judge upped the bail form $95k to $135k. If bail was met, the alleged crewmember is not allowed to leave Brevard County.
