Reports from the the Sun Princess say that travelers suffered from a “norovirus outbreak” – affecting 229 passengers and crew.
The boat was traveling near Singapore (from Australia) when the virus was detected. The virus can lead to nausea, stomach pain, vomiting and diarrhea and be especially impactful to younger passengers, older passengers and those already dealing with medical conditions.
While reports are conflicting, at least 16 passengers were either evacuated or left the ship due to the outbreak. A statement from Carnival Australia downplayed the incident, saying the vast majority of passengers were not affected by the virus.
Princess Cruise Line operates the vessel. Carnival Corporation owns the vessel.
