Carnival Cruise passenger death attributed to alcohol poisoning

Carnival Cruise passenger’s death has been attributed to alcohol poisoning, per a report at CruiseCritic.com.

According to the report…

An 18-year-old died while at sea onboard Carnival Miracle ‘s February 18 sailing. Multiple reports assert the cause of death was alcohol poisoning.

Carnival Cruise Lines confirmed the man’s death. “We can confirm that an 18-year-old male guest passed away in his cabin at approximately 3 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 26 during an eight-day voyage of the Carnival Miracle, which ended later that morning in New York,” spokesman Vance Gulliksen said. “The cause of death has not been determined… We extend our deepest sympathies to the young man’s family and loved ones during this very difficult time.”

This incident was an unfortunate occurrence, and one fortunately, that does not happen with regularity. While death from alcohol poisoning is infrequent, alcohol poisoning is not.

People tend to over drink aboard cruise ships. The atmosphere is festive, everyone is happy and the drinks keep coming.

It’s important to realize though, that accidents can easily occur when too much alcohol has been had – injuries due to falls, medical issues brought on or exacerbated by the consumption and even sexual harassment and rape.

At Waks and Barnett, P.A. we’ve dealt with many cruise ship injury cases where alcohol played a key role. To protect yourself on your next cruise, understand the impact that alcohol will have on your interactions with others, your walk back to your room and your general health.
