Taxi ends up in the water

Multiple news outlets are reporting a taxi van accident that involved passengers from Royal Caribbean’s Freedom of the Seas.

The accident occurred on the island of Saint Martin on June 22. The above video was posted on the SXM KPSM Sint Maaten Police Facebook Page.

Just this week, passengers from the Carnival Cruise Ecstasy were involved in an accident in which a tourist bus flipped over in Eleuthera. It is not clear yet whether the Freedom of the Seas passengers were on a cruise sponshored shore excursion taxi or if they were just riding in the taxi.

The posted video shows locals rescuing passengers from the taxi van and other injured people. It’s also not clear how many people were injured in the accident, but the scene looked chaotic. The video shows at least one vehicle submerged in the water beside the roadway.

According to the website, CruiseHive.com, which also reported the story, “it is also known that three local youngsters were involved in rescuing those in the vehicle before emergency services arrived. They have been called heroes of the day by Police in Marigot.”
