Personal Injury on Cruise – What Is That?

We find that many of the people we talk to have searched for a Personal Injury Lawyer to help them with their cruise ship accident.

What’s interesting is that many people don’t really know what ‘personal injury’ means…they’ve just heard the term thousands of time on billboards, tv, radio and internet ads from personal injury attorneys who are using the phrase to market their firm’s services.

At Waks and Barnett, P.A. our cruise ship lawyers are here to answer your questions and provide guidance on legal matters – accidents and the claims and lawsuits that stem from them.

Simply…a personal injury occurs when you’re hurt and you’re hurt because of the fault of someone else. Someone else’s ‘fault’ or ‘negligence’ led to you being injured. And if it can be proven that their action led to your injury they would be responsible and potentially compensate you for losses (like pain and suffering, lost wages from missed work, hospital bills and other related costs).

An example of a personal injury claim against a cruise line would be something like this. A passenger fell down steps when a broken handrail they were holding couldn’t support their weight. They broke and ankle during the fall and missed a month of work after surgery and rehabilitation. The cruise line could be liable for the the accident if it’s proven they knew of the broken handrail and had not fixed it prior to the accident. The cruise line could be made to pay for a variety of costs related to the accident.
