Holland America Cruise Ship Suffers Engine Room Fire – All Passengers Safe

According to news reports, a Holland America cruise ship returned to port in Seattle because of an engine room fire. The boat was Holland America’s Westerdam.

Fortunately, none of the 3,000+ passengers or cruise ship crew members were hurt or injured because of the fire. Evacuation of the cruise ship was apparently not necessary.

It seems as though Holland America acted quickly and appropriately after taking notice of the fire. The cruise ship returned to port after only an hour at sea. After staying overnight and passing safety inspections, the Westerdam set sail again on on Sunday for the remainder of it’s Alaska cruise.

Passengers were awarded onboard credits and future discounts. Read more at Holland America’s website here.
